Roland RD-300NX Digital Piano Review

Our Roland RD 300NX Review

There are a very few great stage pianos on the market, especially those that have that wonderful acoustic sound. The Roland RD-300NX digital piano is actually both of these. The very nice and easy to use display and the awesome features are all pros of the Roland 300.

The Roland RD-300NX is super close to a great digital piano and an instrument for music producing, however, it is not there yet. It does not have advanced sounds for synth, and the effects are not comprehensive. These features are super easy to work on, and professional, however, not the very best. In addition, there is no speaker, which means you would need headphones or an amp. If you can look past these mishaps, and you want to focus on the acoustic sound, the Roland RD 300 NX might be the perfect instrument for you.

Sound Quality Of The RD-300NX

The RD 300NX is equipped with Roland’s SuperNATURAL Piano sound system, which is a digital sound sampling technology. It is widely known for its great and very effective acoustic piano sound replicating and quality. There are many stage and production pianos on the market, however, the RD-300NX is one of the very best when it comes to the quality of the sound.

Alongside the great acoustic piano sound, the RD-300NX also has over 100 tones you can pick from. Some of the tones are pretty amazing, and some are not, but it can be expected when there is a large volume of different tones added. Looking at them all together, the tone collection of the RD300NX is pretty great and high quality.

The RD300NX is equipped with 128 polyphony motes, which means you can play complicated pieces and it will not get cut short. The Sound Focus technology will always make sure that even the lowest notes can be present, so everything will be heard, as it should be.

Key Action And Realism Of The RD-300NX

The key action and realism of the RD-300NX really set the difference. Most of the stage pianos simply do not focus on great quality and key action realism. It is not the case with this digital piano, that is for sure. It has a Deluxe PHA III Ivory Feel Keyboard, which is fully weighted to copy the resistance of an acoustic piano keyboard. The fabricated ivory also feels extremely real, and they make less sound and noise than keys do which are made out of plastic. Sadly the keys are not graded, but not everything can be perfect. The keyboard feels pretty amazing without it as well.

Other Features And Specifications Of The RD-300NX

Just like other great quality stage or music producing piano, the Roland RD-300NX is well equipped with features. These features include effects such as chorus, reverb, 200 rhythms, EQ, compression, and split keyboard functionality, a MIDI connection port, headphone jack, and you can also add pedals to it. There are also hundreds of tones and sounds to choose from, and you can record and edit your music professionally. Pretty sweet.

As we mentioned before, the Rolands RD-300NX weighs only 17.2 kgs, which means it is easily transportable. You can bring to your performances without any hassle. The attractive LCD display is also pretty impressive and pleasing.

Final Thoughts

In most cases, when digital pianos were designed to do multiple roles, there are many issues. It is certainly not the vase with the Roland RD-300NX. This digital piano is affordable, yet very impressive. The sound is very close to an acoustic one, and it has many great features which will please beginners and advanced players as well. The wonderful Deluxe PHA III Ivory Feel Keyboard copies the feels of a rand piano.

Overall, the RD300-NX is a great digital piano, especially if you look past the few flaws it has, such as the missing speakers. You can also check out our complete guide on the best digital pianos on the market in 2019 to learn more.
